Young Pies melt in darwin

Sunday 27th February, 2005

Collingwood are out of the 2005 Wizard Cup, after being belted by West Coast in the second round by 51pts.

With the temperature soaring at almost 31° and humidity at 78%, the young Pies were out-run, out-muscled and out-classed by a slick Eagles outfit all night.

With five players making their debut, Travis Cloke and Chris Egan stood out, with both players finishing well after slow starts. Young ruck David Fanning earned considerable game time, and despite some sloppy skill errors, didn't look out of place in the big league.

Chad Morrison, Paul Licuria and Julian Rowe were the stand-outs for Collingwood, while Rhyce Shaw again performed admirably on Eagles star Chris Judd, keeping the 2004 Brownlow Medallist to just 15 touches for the match.

Collingwood will now meet reigning Premiers Port Power at Optus Oval on Saturday in their first Wizard Regional Challenge match, with new recruit Blake Caracella in the mix for selection after a return with Williamstown on Friday.
